03rd – 05th October 2023

We invite you all to Gothenburg to participate in the 25th International DSM Conference in October 2023!
Gothenburg, situated in the South Western coast of Sweden, is encircled by rocky shoreline, deep forests, tranquil lakes and the surging sea to the west. No other Swedish city gives such easy access to nature. Gothenburg is a flourishing green city with a vibrant cultural scene, world-class restaurants and a fascinating history. At the same time adventure is never far away. There is always an island waiting to be explored or a mountain to be conquered from the saddle of your bike. With its light summer evenings, colourful autumn days and snow-blanketed winter mornings, Gothenburg is where you can experience the real Sweden. The accessible city Gothenburg is an open and accessible city. It offers almost everything you would expect of a cosmopolitan city – within walking distance. All you need is right in the city and you can get everywhere on foot – from the Central Station to your hotel, to the arenas, shopping, restaurants and nightlife. But it’s not just close to everything; it’s also easy to get here. Both international airports are just 20 minutes from the city centre and you can get direct flights here from more than 65 European cities. Today, Greater Gothenburg is home to 970,000 people from almost every country on the planet. It is they who give the city its soul, its pulse and its unique atmosphere. In Sweden, Gothenburgers have a reputation for their friendliness and hospitality, and many who visit the city for the first time can attest to just how welcoming it feels. Gothenburg is also the automotive capital of Sweden. But Gothenburg does not only mean cars and transportation vehicles. For example, life science is one of Gothenburg’s fastest growing industries and major investments are being made here.
The conference is being hosted by Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg, which conducts research and education in technology and natural sciences at a high international level. The university has 3100 employees and 10,000 students, and offers education in engineering, science, shipping, and architecture. With scientific excellence as a basis, Chalmers promotes knowledge and technical solutions for a sustainable world. Through global commitment and entrepreneurship, we foster an innovative spirit, in close collaboration with wider society. Chalmers was founded in 1829 and has the same motto today as it did then: Avancez – forward.
The host, department of Industrial and Material Science, develops research in the industrial process from need to finished product, while creating added value. By combining skills throughout the chain, the department is distinguished both nationally and internationally. Here we gather internationally competitive researchers, in dynamic and outstanding research environments, as well as in national and international research networks. IMS’s research ranges from curiosity-based basic research to applied research. To a large extent, research is being conducted with companies within energy, construction, mining, transport, and manufacturing sectors.
The work contributes to Chalmers vision of a sustainable future through new knowledge, methods, and tools for safe and healthy workplaces; product development taking the entire life cycle perspective into account (including recycling); new and improved materials; environmentally friendly manufacturing processes and improved performance of production systems.
